Raja Nong Chik out to eradicate poverty
Raja Nong Chik talks about poverty, he talks about urban poor and he’s doing everything he could to make our life better. Some of us may don’t really care about what those people in federal territories are doing because we already have a very comfortable life. So if we were questioned about what we want from Federal Territories Ministery, then the answer would be more projects will be given to them. So the rich will be richer and the poor will be poorer.
As I can see, Raja Nong Chik thinks about all and different types of people who live in KL, Putrajaya and Labuan. And one of the solutions to develop federal territories into a comfortable place for us, is to chase away the poverty, which is haunting the people including those who live in urban.
This article I took from TheStar Online, tells us about the resolution by Raja Nong Chikto eradicate poverty.
FT minister out to eradicate poverty
IF Raja Datuk Nong Chik Raja Zainal Abidin has his way, Kuala Lumpur will be free of poverty.
The newly appointed Federal Territories Minister said that his main focus right now is to eradicate poverty in the city and that issues that need to be addressed are the high cost of living in Kuala Lumpur.
“Based on my experience, I have noticed that the average income level of the poor has not gone up and it is getting increasingly difficult to live in the city,’’ Raja Nong Chik said.
“We have to ensure that everyone has a roof over their heads and they have the right to live in a good family environment,’’ he added.
Raja Nong Chik said the government is already subsidising the rental to help the urban poor and that his future plans for the federal capital will be related to housing for the poor.
The minister was speaking to reporters after making his first official visit to the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) yesterday.
He said his other priorities would be upgrading the hawker industry and ensuring better co-ordination between the agencies.
“I want the DBKL officers to go down and meet the people regularly, be more people friendly and reduce protocol and red-tape,’’ he said.
In response to his expectations of the DBKL, Raja Nong Chik said that he is not new to the City Hall administration and that as the Umno Lembah Pantai division chief, he had visited the local authority more than 200 times to champion the people’s cause.
“My visits have always been amicable and I know what DBKL can and cannot do,’’ he said.
Raja Nong Chik said that people may not be aware that the City Hall is No 1 in ranking compared to the other local authorities but added that it needs to improve on its service delivery.
On his short term plans for the city, he said that he would first get to know the people starting with the Pakatan Rakyat MP’s and that he will also be going down to meet the grassroots regularly.
